Lip Blushing Precare & Aftercare

Precare

  • If you are prone to cold sores, lip tattooing can cause outbreaks, I recommend taking prescribed anti-viral medication a few days before and after your appointment.

  • Do not consume alcohol, caffeine or blood thinners (aspirin, ibuprofen) 48 hours before your procedure, to avoid excess bleeding or bruising.

  • Avoid sun/ tanning bed exposure for 30 days BEFORE and AFTER your procedure. If you show up for your appointment with a new tan or a sunburn, you will need to reschedule and will forfeit your deposit. As your skin exfoliates from a sunburn, it will take the tattoo pigment with it.

  • Cosmetic botox/fillers should be completed 2 weeks in advance.

Aftercare

  • For the first 10 days following the tattoo procedure wash the site gently with unscented soap and lukewarm water using your hands only. Blot dry, do not rub. Apply aftercare multiple times per day.

  • After initial healing use lip products containing sunblock to preserve color and prevent fading.

What to expect

  • Swelling is normal for the first 24-48 hours. Ibuprofen and/or ziplock bag with ice may be used to reduce swelling. Only apply for 15 minutes at a time.

  • During the initial healing period there should be minimal scabbing or flaking. If you do experience some please do not pick as this will pull out pigment. Allow the skin to come off on it’s own.

  • Expect the color to lighten by about 40% once the healing process is complete. Color may appear uneven at different stages of healing. Be patient as this is just a part of the healing process. Any needed adjustments can be made at your touchup.

  • Initial touchup is recommended 6-10 weeks after the first appointment. It is important not to skip your touchup as it will ensure good/even color saturation and provides an opportunity to fine tune the final shape and color. Results last 2-5 years.
